Help wanted!
Please get in touch with Amanda at montereyaudubon@gmail.com if you'd like to volunteer your time in the community. No birding experience necessary!
APPEAL FOR BOARD MEMBERS
Do you have a passion for conservation and the environment? We need help on our board! You don’t have to be a top-tier birder to be on the board of directors - we need folks from all backgrounds and walks of life to help protect the birds and wildlife that so many people love. Please get in touch of you’d like to volunteer!
Research and community science chair
Do you want to help gather important data on our local bird species of concern? How about helping the Cornell Lab use birds to track the impacts of climate change? We are looking for a volunteer to help spearhead our re-occurring bird surveys and community science efforts. The work would include helping to organize the triennial Tricolored Blackbird survey, annual Brown Pelican survey, periodic CDFW Bank Swallow surveys, and new biannual Climate Watch surveys! This is a new position requires more people-organizing experience than bird monitoring experience. New birders are more than welcome to take on this role - you'll learn so much!
Student volunteers
Student volunteers needing to earn credit for school may help us and the local birds in a number of ways! Students can help organize trash cleanups at a local park or beach, conduct public outreach during seasonal events, write and submit social media or blog posts about local conservation or environmental justice issues, or develop another project that supports our mission.
We support students of all abilities, backgrounds, and identities. If you identify as a BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ student, we support developing field trips or outdoor activities to specifically amplify those groups and promote their visibility in outdoor spaces and the birding community.
